Summer Training Program Applicant FAQ

Q: Is this a full-time commitment? What will my hours and schedule be? Can I take any time off?

A: This is a full-time commitment.  We STRONGLY RECOMMEND that participants do not commit to other jobs or project during this time.  Hours and scheduling may vary according to your project (i.e., fieldwork versus lab work) and are to be determined by your mentor.  Arrangements for time off are to be made with the mentor and should be addressed as soon as possible to avoid impacting the project's time line.

Q: Do I need to choose a mentor prior to applying?

A: While we recommend identifying and contacting potential mentors prior to application, we recognize that this may not always be possible, especially for non-Illinois students.  Applicants may learn about potential mentors by visiting our "Meet the Mentor" page.  Applicants who need assistance finding a mentor match should contact Marcia Hayes, Program Coordinator at mhayes@illinois.edu or 217-333-4291.

Q:  What housing arrangements are made for non-Illinois students participating in the program?

A: Participants who are NOT University of Illinois students will be reimbursed for their housing costs for the 10 weeks of the program.  We will also pay for allowable  expenses to support travel to and from Urbana at the beginning and end of the summer program. Non-Illinois students should contact Marcia Hayes, Program Coordinator at 217-333-4291 or mhayes@illinois.edu to receive listings of area sublets or roommate situations.
