DMB Labeling
The Laboratory of Sialobiology has developed a new method for analyzing O-acetylation of cell surface polysialic acid in Escherichia coli K1 by release of oligosialic acids with recombinant endo-N-acylneuraminidase (endo-N) and fluorescent labeling with 1,2-diamino-4,5-methylenedioxybenzene (DMB). The results of this analysis with various E. coli K1 strains is given by the following data, which comprise Figure 5 in a manuscript recently submitted to the Journal of Bacteriology. These data support the quantification of O-acetylated sialic acids given in this manuscript.
