In both human and animal health there are a number of diseases which are of a major public health concern. These diseases are often referred to as "reportable diseases" or "notifiable diseases". Such diseases are to be reported to the appropriate authorities. Specific reporting procedures, laws, and regulations vary by state as does the actual list of reportable diseases.
