In this course participants will learn the basic principles of minimally invasive surgery. The equipment to be used includes types of scopes, cannulae, insufflation, monitors and image capturing system, and MIS instruments. All equipment will be explained and available for use in the laboratory. Participants will learn about different cannula types, placement techniques, and common placement sites for laparoscopy. Psychomotor skills will be developed using MIS training stations. In the laboratory, participants will perform a laparoscopic exploratory and an ovariectomy/ovariohysterectomy on dogs using the LigaSureTM tissue sealing device. No previous training in minimally invasive surgery is needed.
Registration is open to veterinarians and their technicians. Technicians must register with a veterinarian; veterinarians can register as an individual.
