Meet Illinois Veterinary College Experts at Arlington Horse Expo in NovemberThree University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine faculty members will speak at the inaugural Equestrian Lifestyle Expo, scheduled for November 22 and 23 at Arlington Park Racecourse in Arlington Heights, Ill. The Expo is a new event sponsored by the Horseman's Council of Illinois featuring educational activities and seminars covering every aspect of horse ownership.
The College will have a booth throughout the Expo where visitors can see images and videos related to specialty equine veterinary care, from lameness evaluations and colic surgery to head and neck injuries and reproductive health. Stop by the booth to learn about the state's only veterinary college and its Veterinary Teaching Hospital, the state's only facility capable of performing magnetic resonance imaging on horses.
Faculty speaking at the Expo include Dr. Matthew C. Stewart, Dr. Allison Stewart, and Dr. James Brendemuehl.
- Dr. Matthew Stewart joined the faculty in 2003 and is the director of the Research and Graduate Studies program in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Medicine. His current research studies tendon and joint injuries in horses.
Dr. Allison Stewart, an assistant professor of equine surgery, is currently researching stem cell therapy for joint and tendon repair.
Dr. James Brendemuehl is an assistant professor with extensive experience as a practicing veterinarian at major thoroughbred horse farms throughout the country.
