Accessing OneNote Backup Files

Below are instructions on how to access your Microsoft OneNote backup files.

Windows XP:
1. Open “My Computer”
2. Click the address bar and type “C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\OneNote\” (Be sure to type in your net id in the red labeled area, or you will not be able to access your backup files).
3. You will see a folder in this new Window. It will most likely be named “12.0” or “14.0” (This varies based on which version of OneNote you have). Open this folder.
4. Open the “Backup” folder.
5. Listed are your OneNote backup files.

Windows Vista/Windows 7:
1. Open “My Computer”
2. Click the address bar and type “C:\Users\\AppData\Microsoft\OneNote\” (Be sure to type in your net id in the red labeled area, or you will not be able to access your backup files).
3. You will see a folder in this new Window. It will most likely be named “12.0” or “14.0” (This varies based on which version of OneNote you have). Open this folder.
4. Open the “Backup” folder.
5. Listed are your OneNote backup files.

**By default, two backup copies of all of your notebooks are made each day and saved in these locations.
