Illinois AgriNews (March 5) – Dr. Jim Lowe, a veterinarian with Carthage Veterinary Service and a visiting instructor in the integrated food animal medicine systems in the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Illinois, told an audience of pork producers at the Illinois Pork Expo that the U.S. hog industry, even with stepped-up biosecurity, still needs to improve movements to prevent or control the next outbreak of disease. “If we don’t learn how the world functions, we are probably doomed to make the same mistakes again, and I think those are our golden opportunities,” he said.
