POSITION VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Full-time, 100% (12 month basis) Open Rank (Clinical or Tenure-track) Assistant, Associate or Full Professor in Veterinary Small Animal Surgery. The successful candidate must have a DVM degree or equivalent and have completed a residency program in small animal surgery. ACVS board certification is strongly preferred but board-eligibility is required.

The successful candidate will be expected to provide clinical service in veterinary orthopedic, neurosurgery and soft tissue surgery, contribute to the clinical instruction of surgical residents, interns and veterinary students, and communicate with clients and referring veterinarians. Teaching responsibilities will also include didactic, small group and laboratory instruction of veterinary and graduate students. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in clinically relevant or basic science research projects. Candidates interested in collaborative research will find ample opportunities within the University of Illinois. Candidates interested in rehabilitation will have the opportunity to expand services, teaching and/or clinical research offered within our physical therapy unit. Candidates seeking a broad clinical caseload will be provided with an opportunity for a shared appointment in soft tissue/orthopedic/neurosurgery and laparoscopy, thoracoscopy and oncologic surgery. The University of Illinois Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital is a full service facility with newly equipped surgical suites, arthroscopy, total hip replacement, intraoperative fluoroscopy and the latest implants for fracture fixation. On-site services include computed tomography, MRI, Dual Energy X-Ray absorptiometry, computerized gait analysis, and physical therapy. Percent of time dedicated to teaching, scholarly activities, and clinical service will be based on the successful candidates appointment title.

The Department of Veterinary Clinical Medicine in the College of Veterinary Medicine features modern research and animal care facilities. The department is responsible for instruction predominantly in the third and fourth years of the professional veterinary curriculum, an extensive post-doctoral clinical training and graduate program, and a vigorous program of research discovery. In addition, the faculty and staff provide broad public engagement through operation of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, a regional primary and referral care center for delivery of state-of-the-art veterinary medical services. Through its academic sections, Veterinary Clinical Medicine conducts discovery, instruction and service relevant to companion animals; horses; food and fiber animals; exotic, wildlife and zoological species. We are dedicated not only to animal health and welfare, but to improvement of human and environmental well-being through improved understanding of the human-animal bond, food production systems and ecosystem health.
