The Department of Pathobiology (http://www.cvm.uiuc.edu/path/ ), at the University of Illinois, College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking Visiting Clinical Instructors. These positions are members of a team of veterinary professionals working to develop veterinary diagnostic capabilities within countries in Central Asia for some of the most important diseases of domestic animals, including foot-and-mouth disease, avian influenza and brucellosis.

Successful candidates will:

o Conduct training sessions, including classroom-based and practical training, with laboratory diagnostic personnel and veterinary practitioners. Subject matter covered includes basic knowledge and recognition of select diseases, case investigation, principles of laboratory diagnosis and epidemiology.

o Deliver professional and technical guidance to diagnostic laboratory personnel on performance of molecular diagnostic techniques for specific infectious diseases.

o Evaluate training effectiveness, identifying training deficiencies and opportunities for improvement of training efforts.

o Coordinate activities between diagnostic and veterinary personnel in-country and subject matter experts, technical professionals and training faculty.

o Proactively identify project risks and issues that impact deadlines, scope and quality of training.

o Perform other duties appropriate for the position of Veterinary Training Specialist, including those assigned by the project management team.

Candidates must have a professional degree in veterinary medicine (DVM) or a PhD and veterinary diagnostic experience. Candidates with both a DVM and a MS or PhD are highly desirable. Specific subject matter training will be provided to successful candidates. Other required qualifications include: willingness to work overseas for extended periods; excellent interpersonal and communications skills; proficiency in MS Office applications; and demonstrated ability to make decisions independently by identifying issues, diagnosing problems and generating alternative solutions.

Desired qualifications include: experience in didactic and practical training of biomedical subject matter; experience in laboratory diagnosis of infectious diseases; experience in international veterinary medicine; and/or experience in food animal veterinary medicine.

These positions are full-time, 12-month Visiting Academic positions. The salary for these positions is highly competitive, beginning at $75,000 but may begin at a higher rate dependent upon on experience and qualifications. The anticipated starting date is negotiable.
