Benefits of Being
a Member
Monthly meetings and special events
The Executive Council organizes monthly ISCAVMA meetings and special
events, provides meals, housing, and travel expenses for the guest speakers,
and funds an after-the-meeting get-together at the vet school.
Emergency Loan Fund
The ISCAVMA Emergency Loan Fund is available to members in need
of short-term temporary loans. More details and applications can be
obtained be contacting the current ISCAVMA president.
Insurance programs
The AVMA offers insurance programs for student chapter members
at the lowest cost area ratings. The insurance may continue beyond
graduation anywhere in the US, providing the AVMA application form
is sent in at least 45 days prior to graduation, and you are in good
standing within the student chapter for at least the last two academic
years of school.
- AVMA Group Health and Life Insurance Trust offers AVMA members
a package of disability, hospitalization, and life-term insurance
benefits that can be tailored to the needs and desires of the individual
member.
- AVMA Professional Liability Insurance Trust offers malpractice
insurance to members of the Association.
Job placement service
Job placement service for fourth-year students is available by sending
a résumé to the AVMA office one month prior to the placement
service Bulletin publication date.
AVMA Membership Discounts
Free AVMA membership from graduation to December 31st of the same
year is given to graduating students who are ISCAVMA members in good
standing for their last two academic years. Those members also benefit
from reduced AVMA dues for two more years following graduation.
Journal Discounts
The Journal of the AVMA and the American Journal of Veterinary Research
are available to ISCAVMA members in good standing at one-fifth
the normal price. In addition, complementary journals are sent to the
library for our use.
Sponsorships
SAVMA also sponsors the publication of InterVet
(the journal of the SAVMA), Native American Project
(externships at the Navajo Indian Reservation in Arizona), Minority
Student Affairs, scholarships, and the Teaching
Excellence Award.
Graduation Certificates
Graduation certificates are presented to each senior in good standing
of the Illinois Student Chapter at graduation. A member in good standing
shall have paid current annual dues and annual dues for the last three
professional veterinary academic years by December 1 of the current
year; a member shall not be considered to be in good standing until
said dues are paid.
