In order to save energy, it’s important to use your thermostat sensibly. If you find yourself opening the windows in the winter to cool a room down, or using a space heater to combat chilly conditions, it’s time to find the location of your thermostat. Did you know that computers that are turned on use 120-150 Watts, but while in standby mode they use 3 Watts or less? That’s some serious energy saving! You can set your computer so that it automatically goes into standby mode after a certain period of inactivity. Keep in mind that screen savers DO NOT actually save energy!
Like fats, oils and sweets, use printers sparingly
Let’s slim down our energy consumption. Did you know that printers are using a significant amount of energy whenever they are plugged in? Unplug printers that are not being regularly used. To save energy and paper, print only when absolutely necessary.

Before you go home for the night or weekend, remember to turn off personal electronic devices at the office. Scanners, printers, fax machines, speakers, lights, radios, or any other item that is plugged in needlessly consumes energy even when not in use. Why use energy in two places at once?
