NEW STUDENT INFORMATION

Welcome. We are looking forward to your arrival on campus and congratulate you on becoming a member of the Class of 2017.  We have sent you a letter with the link to this website and hope you will find it helpful in getting all your required forms completed.

All forms are due no later than 5:00 p.m., June 21, 2013.

You will see that Orientation activities are the entire week of August 19 - 23, 2013.  To better explain our process, some of the activities we are requesting that you complete under the heading of  “Required before Orientation” are meant to be completed on Monday and Tuesday.  The iVLE experience is all day Wednesday and while optional, is a big hit with all first years who attend.  It is a great way to meet your classmates away from the campus and get to know a few of the faculty before classes begin.  Mandatory orientation is “officially” Thursday and Friday of that week; expect to spend most of both days at the college.

All forms (includes rabies forms but not Student Medical Forms) are to be sent to:

College of Veterinary Medicine
Office of Academic and Student Affairs
2001 South Lincoln Avenue
Room 2271G
Urbana, IL 61802

Student Medical Forms must to be sent to:

McKinley Health Center
1109 South Lincoln Avenue
Urbana, Ill 61801

Updated message 5/31/2013:  Some private practices are reporting that makers of rabies vaccine serum no longer have shortages.  They are now able to provide the rabies vaccine series (3 innoculations) to students entering the DVM program.

It has been brought to our attention that several new students have not been able to start their rabies vaccine series through their own physicians due to shortages of the rabies vaccine serum.  The offices are making the decision to hold the serum for patients who have been exposed and need immediate treatment.  We have received the following message from McKinley Health Center regarding the rabies vaccine and its availability:  "At this time we have no shortage of rabies vaccine and will give the student’s their series if they present to the Immunization and Travel Clinic prior to the beginning of the fall semester.  We do ask that they bring their I-card, if available or a copy of their acceptance letter (UIN should be on the letter) and a picture ID."   They recommend telling any of you who plan on getting your rabies series here on-campus at McKinley Health Center that whatever day you present for the first vaccination, the second one will be one week later on the same day that you presented.  It is important that the first two vaccines be given at the designated time.

We look forward to meeting you and orienting you to the DVM program.  Please check this site thoroughly and often for any updates or revisions that may be necessary.  If you still need additional information please call us at 217-265-0380 or e-mail us at asa@vetmed.illinois.edu.  We are here to help you in any way we can.
