- EXERCISE AND TISSUE INFLAMMATION
- Medical News Today (Bexhill-on-Sea, England, Nov. 29) -- A study conducted by K. Todd Keylock while a doctoral student at Illinois working with U. of I. kinesiology and community health professor Jeffrey Woods suggests moderate physical exercise results in decreased inflammation of damaged skin tissue. The study, which also involved predoctoral fellow Victoria Vieira and U. of I. veterinary pathobiology professor Matthew Wallig, appears in the online edition of the American Journal of Physiology.

- WLS-Channel 7 (ABC; Chicago, Nov. 22) -- An examination at the U. of I. College of Veterinary Medicine revealed the cause of death for a red wolf that died at Miller Park Zoo in Bloomington, Ill.

- ESPN (Nov. 20) -- During a game against Duke, ESPN aired an interview with Illinois basketball coach Bruce Weber in which he discussed the rehab for his dog Daisy's torn cruciate ligaments at the "amazing" U of I Veterinary Teaching Hospital.

- News-Gazette (Nov. 16) -- Third-year veterinary student Jeannie Harrison submitted an essay about her dog, Rose, and is a finalist in a contest sponsored by Hill's Pet Nutrition. The winner, based on online voting, can select a pet shelter to receive $10,000.
- SHAPE UP, PUP!
- Channel 3 (WCIA) Morning Show (November 5) -- Kim Knap, rehabilitation specialist, spoke about the Veterinary Teaching Hospital's weight management program for dogs.
- PETS AND HALLOWEEN
- WDWS AM-580 News (Oct. 31) - Dr. Lidia Zimmerman, small animal medicine resident, spoke about the safety hazards pet owners should watch for on Halloween.
- SPECIES DECLINE
- Science Daily (Chevy Chase, Md., Oct. 24) -- A new U. of I. study shows that parasites can play a pivotal role in the decline of species in fragmented forests. The red colobus monkey is in decline in forest fragments in western Uganda. Researchers led by Thomas Gillespie, a U. of I. professor of pathobiology and of anthropology, found that forest fragmentation increases the burden of infectious parasites on animals already stressed by disturbances to their habitat.

- News-Gazette (Oct. 6) -- Dr. Jim Brendemuehl, equine faculty in veterinary clinical medicine, and Dr. Uriel Kitron, pathobiology, were quoted in a story about the death from West Nile virus of a UI horse.

- American Veterinary Medical Association (Sept. 5) -- The current Student American Veterinary Medical Association Executive Committee includes two veterinary students from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine: Emily Eaton, president-elect, and Rachel Shaff, secretary.

- The Horse (Sept. 5) -- Shannon Melliere, president of the Illinois AAEP student chapter, was one of 22 Illinois students who attended the Opportunities in Equine Practice Seminar last weekend. She described the activities of her chapter. Deke Carls was also quoted, and a group photo is featured.
